Since May, we’ve been out on the The Color Tour 2012 evangelizing and Introducing The Open Color Ecosystem, our vision for the future of color communication. Our message is simple: Understand that color is a feeling, not a number; and demystify color technology.
Open Color Ecosystem Software Modules
The graphic above presents the modules of the open color ecosystem and the sections below provide a brief description of each. In addition, we’ve developed a brochure which outlines the entire system visually and beginning today it can be downloaded as a PDF.
The difficulty matching brand color
There are two main reasons why brand colors do not meet client expectations:
- The client was never provided a sample of the appropriate ink on the correct substrate to review and approve.
- Color measurement instruments do not all measure exactly the same in spite of being built to industry standards.
Within the open color ecosystem, there are modules that resolve both of these issues.
VerifiedColor.com
The VerifiedColor.com module allows brands to communicate color to folks across the industry.
Generic swatch books are produced by a single printing process on one or two substrates. It’s critical to see the specific generic color matched and produced with inks for the correct print process on the correct substrate. VerifiedColor.com is a cloud-based solution that manages the process of physical drawdown creation and then warehouses the resultant digital representation of the new ink and substrate specific color.
Normalizer
Share color with the supply chain that is properly adjusted for the application and instrument being used to validate color.
With the introduction of our Normalizer technology, there is now an option to provide a spectral reflectance curve of the target color and then let our unique algorithms adjust the color for variables like illuminant, observer and even the instrument used to take the measurements.
ProofPass.com
Applications like ProofPass.com and those from third parties are utilized to accurately validate color independent of the instrumentation the manufacturing facility is utilizing.
In the case of ProofPass.com, pre-media suppliers, printers & brand owners use ProofPass for:
- Color verification and process control of ink jet and virtual proofs.
- Supply chain wide validation of brand color conformance.
- Evaluation of print against industry specified gray balance targets.
- Sharing of color information with suppliers and customers.
Proper color achieved and feeling conveyed
Achieving accurate brand color matches on store shelves has never been easier if you use the various workflow modules of the open color ecosystem at the appropriate points within the color supply chain.
