Today is the final day in our “18 Days of Color” campaign. We’ve enjoyed sharing color and branding stories with you during the first part of June. Thanks to all those who supported this campaign and shared their color stories with us. For background on this campaign and the Social Madness contest, you can read this post.
The color of the day is …
The most appropriate color to end the 18 Days of Color campaign is magenta. That’s because our CEO Jim Raffel tweets it out every now and again. The tweet is normally one word: Magenta. The ColorMetrix team knows if we see it that he’s probably feeling a bit overwhelmed – and it could be in a good way or a bad way.
Notice Raffel’s two tweets above. In one, he says goodnight to his Twitter followers and mentions he has an early coffee meeting the next morning. Seventeen hours later, he simply tweets out “magenta” in all upper case. If you follow him, you know that it’s rare for 17 hours to go by without a single tweet. He probably had a busy, overwhelming day and it’s up to the reader to figure out if that’s good or bad.
Magenta actually has multiple meanings as a color. We picked spontaneous, overwhelming and transforming in our example because that’s what the color means to Raffel. But it can also reflect harmony, balance, power and energy.

The word magenta itself is from a town.
It is quite curious that they would name color after a town where a battle occurred on June 4, 1859 during the Second Italian War of Independence, resulting in a French-Sardinian victory under Napoleon III against the Austrians under Marshal Ferencz Gyulai.
I suppose THEY were ALSO feeling overwhelmed

Mr. Raffel is having another M-A-G-E-N-T-A day and can’t reply at this time. 🙂
