ColorMetrix won’t connect to my measurement instrument.
Make sure you have no sync software running on your computer for use with your Palm Pilot or other PDA, because it will block ColorMetrix from communicating with your instrument.
Check instrument preferences in ColorMetrix. Select “Preferences” from the file bar. Under the instrument tab, make sure your instrument is selected and the proper port is selected. Also at this point it wouldn’t be bad to double check that your instrument is in the port you think it should be.

Check instrument settings, (the settings on the instrument, not in ColorMetrix) do they match the settings described on their supported instrument notes. (note: Even if you have been using your instrument for a long time and feel that the settings should not have changed, they may have.)
Make sure you are using the correct manufacturer-supplied cable to connect your instrument to your computer. For instance, the RJ-45 connection on X-Rite’s instruments is not an Ethernet port.
