SpotOn! displays how a press or proofer performs to the ISO 12647-2 standard for inks and overprints, along with the G7 Neutral Print Density Curve and gray balance. Users run an i1® scanning spectrophotometer over the color control strip and SpotOn! automatically generates easy-to-read graphs and tables arranged in a ‘dashboard’ style layout. The technology filters collected data by job number and name, customer, press, operator, paper, run length, and more.

Using this filtered data, trend charts are generated showing variance from the ISO standard, Neutral Print Density Curve deviation, gray balance deviation, density to deltaE trends, and density to NPDC and TVI trends. This trend data helps printers notice shifts in the process and aides them in making adjustments to keep the presses and proofers performing as close as possible to specifications.

The Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI) — an education and training organization funded by and dedicated to the printing and graphic arts industry — has announced a one-day training course on digital print process control.  The course will be held on October 8, 2009, and will be conducted by Jim Raffel, the CEO of ColorMetrix Technologies.  The course will be directed at general managers, prepress personnel, pressroom managers, or anyone responsible for ensuring that quality color is produced in the print shop, and will culminate with an actual press run on the IGI Kodak NexPress.  Cost is only $195 for this hands-on class and includes a $350 off a ProofPass.com subscription.  Course details and enrollment forms are available by CLICKING HERE.

Name That Color With JavaScript enabled the user can change any of the color names associated with the dataset from the tolerance editing page.

Expanded Sample Description The single description field associated with each sample has been replaced by a group of specific informational meta data fields. The number of fields and field names are defined by the user on an installation ID basis.

Detail Page Improvements Out of tolerance density and TVI measurements in the center column of the detail page are now highlighting in red. This only applies to swatches defined as process colors; Black, Cyan, Magenta or Yellow.

Additional Reports Additional printer friendly reports have been added to address reporting needs like a label size report with density and TVI information and a detailed density and TVI difference report for all color bar swatches.

Dataset Filters Dataset filtering has been added to the main and detail pages. On the main page recent reports can be limited to those of a specific filter. Similarly on the detail page the list of available datasets can be limited to those associated with a specific filter.

Dataset Creation Updates The data set creation process has been improved with interactive error checking on the dataset creation page and automatic transferred to the tolerance creation page.

In just a few days we will release a new tool kit for use with ColorMetrix 1.8.64 that will make spot color verification and process control an easy task.  The toolkit consists of a new label report format and a detailed set of instructions for using ColorMetrix in spot color control situations.  As long as you are covered under a support and maintenace agreement you can request the tool kit via email.

Also, With the release of ColorMetrix version 1.8.64, we are now capable of supporting the new IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 Digital Control Strip v2.  For ColorMetrix customers covered under a support and maintenance agreement this is a completely free feature.  First, request of download of 1.8.64 from our web-site.  Then, email me and request the necessary support files which I will provide to you in a single zip file.
